Open the camera. Take the photo.
A DSLR cut in half next to the photo it takes. Change the aperture, the shutter speed and the ISO, zoom the lens and change the sensor, and see how light, blur and noise change. Then do the same with Blender's camera.

KEY IDEAS
One stop = double or half the light
Each of the three settings changes the light and something else. Balancing them is the whole craft of exposure.
- Aperture · f/
- How wide the lens opens. f/2 lets in 4× more light than f/4. A wide aperture gives a shallow depth of field.
- Shutter speed
- How long the sensor is exposed. 1/60 lets in twice the light of 1/125. Slow speeds blur movement and camera shake.
- ISO
- How much the signal is amplified. ISO 800 is twice as bright as ISO 400, with more noise.
- Focal length
- The angle of view: 16 mm is wide, 200 mm is narrow. Perspective depends on the distance, not on the lens.
- Sensor size
- A smaller sensor crops the image: APS-C × 1.5, Micro Four Thirds × 2 (equivalent focal length).
- Modes
- M: you choose everything. Av (A): you choose the aperture. Tv (S): you choose the shutter speed. The camera fills in the rest.
